Q. Clothing/equipment. What do I need?

A. Once you have booked an activity with Seren Ventures, we will send a suggested clothing/equipment list for your course/activity. Details are included with your booking confirmation.

Q. Food and drink. What do I need?

A. Betws-Y-Coed has a number of shops, which will provide sandwiches and flapjacks etc. for people going out onto the hills. Some of the accommodation providers will also provide a packed lunch, but many don't as the local shops already cater for this. The only exception is our Expedition trip, where we provide the food, unless you have special dietary requirements.

Q. How fit do I have to be?

A. Obviously, the fitter you are, the more able you will be for your course/activity. However, we move at a pace comfortable for the group and according to the conditions faced. If you are unsure, please call us. See also individual activity pages for further details.

Q. Do I need insurance.

A. Seren Ventures carries full public liability insurance, but we advise you to take out your own personal accident/cancellation insurance. If you already have insurance cover, check that it covers you for the activity you are undertaking. We suggest BMC insurance, which members of the BMC or Mountaineering Council of Scotland (MCof S) can avail of. If you are not a member of the BMC it is worth considering joining as it is the representative body for mountainwalkers, climbers and mountaineers in the UK. Telephone 0870 010 4878. Alternatively you can avail of cover with Snowcard who cater for activity sports, membership is not required. Telephone 01327 262805.

Q. Can I bring my dog?

A. In short, no, unless specifically agreed with us beforehand. Much of the land we move across has livestock on it and while it is not illegal to bring a dog on to such land, we prefer you to experience the activity/route first.

Q. Trains. What is the closest rail station?

A. Betws-Y-Coed has it's own station, which links to the London-Holyhead line at Llandudno junction. Alternatively depending on when your course is, we may be able to give you a lift from Colwyn Bay to your accommodation in Betws. Please check with us before booking. More here..

Q. What if the weather is poor?

A. We still go out! We of course take safety into consideration, which may mean, another mountain objective is selected or a different route up the same mountain is taken. This is one of the aspects of mountain life we teach, that you need to be prepared to change plans depending on prevailing conditions. Someone also once said, there is no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing.
